Yes people. I went commando to work. Are you proud of me? Are you proud that it took me two day too many to do my laundry? Well it happened. I sank to a level I never thought I would sink to. I thought I learned my lesson about waiting to do laundry last year when my washing machine broke with all my underwear trapped inside.
Now let's talk about other things that happen when you've just recently moved into your fourth floor walk-up apartment that has no air conditioning.
1. You *no shame* strip to your undies when you get home. NO SHAME PEOPLE.
I kid you not every day this week has concluded in my stripping down to nothing, jumping into the ice cold shower and then proceeding to lie on my bed with no clothes, because who's got time for that clothing sh**?!
2. You seriously contemplate not running back up four flights of stairs to get your umbrella...
when it's POURING rain.
Now of course, you always go back upstairs to get it, because the only thing worse than sweating off your makeup is ending up with mascara tear lines from the rain.
3. You constantly have neck pain.
Now, for me, this may have to do with working in front of a computer all day, but I'm also convinced it's this new mattress on the ground situation we have going on...
4. You miss the feeling of plopping or even just sitting on your bed.
Whatever happened to beds three feet in the air? What about a headboard? Or even one of those super old metal rolling bed frames? I wouldn't complain about any of the above...
5. You constantly complain about your rent prices and debate your sanity for not moving to that nice place with the beautiful view in Bed-Stuy.
Why in God's name would one ever pay to live in a 1. walk up 2. non-airconditioned apartment 3. perhaps 8'x8' space for more than $700 per month? Well any Manhattanite would. Apparently.
Because you climb out your window onto your tiny fire escape with a bottle of Pinot Noir in hand and just listen to the pitter patter of rain and gaze into the night sky. You remember that this neighborhood is beautifully eclectic, full of pizzazz and just about the coolest place east of the West Village.
Welcome to Alphabet City everyone. I'm glad you've decided to come on this journey with me.
